There are a variety of factors that affect the price of your project because each shoot has different requirements for preparation, the actual shoot, and post-production. Your estimate will include prices for the following:

creative fee (usually an hourly rate for the actual shoot)
production expenses
usage rights fees (see the American Society of Media Photographers web site (asmp.org) for more information)

Usage rights requested

Most clients request One Time, Non-exclusive Rights. This means you have the non-exclusive right to use the image for this one specified time. The image could also be sold to other clients for the same use or some other use at any time, however this costs a lot less than exclusive rights. Make sure you request only the rights you really need so you don’t end up paying for rights that are not necessary.

The American Society of Media Photographers web site (asmp.org) provides a lot of great information about image licensing and why photographers charge usage fees.
